College Admissions Counselors Talk…on MSNBC
admin | April 23, 2008My older brother forwarded me this video about the changing world of college admissions, from the view of the admissions staff themselves. They make some good points, but the scrolling bottom bar also has some good information too. Do you agree with what they mention? Let me know in the comments.

The interviewers seemed really stuck on the whole online profile
James | April 27, 2008The interviewers seemed really stuck on the whole online profile thing. And like the two college admissions officers said, it really doesn’t matter that much. When they have 30k applicants, they’re not going to have time to checkout your online presence. (I do recall a space on the CMU application for a personal website though…)
You’re online profile probably matters more when you’re looking for a job, where employers can take the time to checkout what you’ve been upto online.
I definitely agree. One thing I would have to add
Nolan | April 27, 2008I definitely agree. One thing I would have to add is that when the applicant pool shrinks and you’re a borderline admit, it might be one of the things that puts you in their favor. This also bumps into the “online resume” idea where you can show off details of your large projects easily, whether it be programming applications, videos of performances, or a science fair project. This however, does not substitute for properly describing the scope of your projects inside your application (1st place in regional, etc.) Thanks for the comment James!
